Adding Sound to Keynote Presentations

Keynote is a powerful presentation tool that can easily integrate your iTunes music, iPhoto images, and even iMovie videos. However, there is a large number of useful sound effects that comes with Garageband that you cannot easily integrate into Keynote. Since some staff have expressed interest in using sound with their Keynote presentations, here are the steps you can take to use those sounds in Keynote.

1) Borrow a sound effect CD from me. Converting the sounds into a format Keynote can use is a complicated process, so I have done that and burned all the sounds onto a CD. I have them in my room; you can come and get one or send a student to borrow it for you.

2) Put the CD in your computer. If iTunes does not launch automatically, then you should launch it. If you have not used iTunes before on your computer, then it will take you through the setup process. Just click Next, Next, Next...Done to setup iTunes.

3) In iTunes, Choose File > Add to Library...

4) Choose the Sound Effects CD from the Devices column on the left, and click Open. iTunes will import 218 sound effects to your iTunes Library.

5) Close iTunes. You can eject the CD now.

6) Open your Keynote presentation.

7) Click the Media button in the Keynote toolbar.

8) Click the Audio tab at the top of the Media browser. Choose iTunes from the audio list.

9) You can listen to a sound by selecting it and clicking the play button at the bottom of that window. Click play again to stop it.

10) To add a sound to your slide show, drag it and drop it on a slide. It will play when that slide appears.

11) If you want it to play on the mouse-click instead, then add a build effect for it, just as you would for an image or text box.
